Kom Ombo Temple

– Overview:  

     The Temple of Kom Ombo is unique because it is dedicated to two gods: Sobek, the crocodile god and Horus, the falcon-headed god. This dual dedication is reflected in its symmetrical design, with two identical halves.  

   – Key Features:  

     – Reliefs and carvings showcasing ancient medical instruments and surgical tools.  

     – A sacred crocodile mummification museum featuring well-preserved crocodile mummies.  

     – Stunning views of the Nile from the temple’s elevated location.  

   – Historical Significance:

      – Built during the Ptolemaic period (180–47 BCE), the temple highlights the integration of Greek and Egyptian styles.

Edfu Temple

   – Overview:  

     The Temple of Horus at Edfu is one of the best-preserved temples in Egypt and is dedicated to Horus, the falcon god of protection and kingship.  

   – Key Features:  

     – The grand entrance adorned with reliefs of Horus and pharaohs.  

     – The hypostyle hall, with intricately carved columns depicting religious rituals.  

     – A detailed relief recounting the mythical battle between Horus and Seth, symbolizing the  triumph of good over evil.  

   – Historical Significance:

    – Constructed between 237–57 BCE during the Ptolemaic era, the temple reflects the height of Egyptian architectural and artistic achievement.

Itinerary

Morning

Departure from Aswan (typically by private car, van or coach)  to Kom Ombo (about 1 hour) to tour the temple and crocodile museum.  

Midday

A traditional Egyptian lunch is included, served at a local restaurant or enroute between the two temples.

Afternoon

Continue to Edfu (another 1–1.5 hours) for a guided tour of the Temple of Horus.  

Evening

Return to Aswan.
