Tipping

Tipping, is common in the tourism sector, and it’s often expected for various services. Here’s a quick guide to tipping in Egypt for different situations:

Hotels

– Housekeeping: 1-2$per night
– Concierge for special requests: 1-2$

Guides, Drivers and airport assistant

– Tour guides:
10$ per half day tour
20-25$ per full day tour
– Drivers:
8$ per half day tour
15-20$ per full day tour
5-7$ per transfer from or to hotel or airport or station

– Airport assistant:
5$ per transfer

During cruise trip

“During the cruise, guests may request various services or assistance from the staff. Rather than tipping each time, we recommend a tip of $5 per day per guest, which can be given at the end of the trip. Simply place the amount in an envelope and hand it to the reception desk on the ship. Thank you for your generosity and support of our staff.”

Sites and Attractions

– If someone helps you take photos, points something out, or offers minor assistance, a small tip of 10–20 EGP is usually sufficient.

Toilets

– For bathroom attendants 5–10 EGP is common.

It’s always a good idea to carry small bills, as it can be challenging to get change. Tipping is a meaningful gesture in Egypt and is usually met with gratitude.
